5 Things Every Bride Should Bring to their Wedding Dress Appointment

Spoiler alert, not all of them will fit in your handbag

All of us at Bellissima understand the white-hot excitement brides feel ahead of their wedding dress appointment. That undeniable nervous energy, wondering if today is the day 'the one' will be found. It's a uniquely wonderful journey, one we have the privilege of taking part in every day.

As exciting as the process can be, the pressure to find the perfect wedding dress also provokes anxiety in many brides. But a little preparation, both mental and physical, can ease some of this stress, helping ensure your appointment is as enjoyable as it should be.

Bring these Things to Your Wedding Dress Appointment

Bring these Things to Your Wedding Dress Appointment

Help yourself get the most out of your bridal appointment and ensure it runs super smoothly with these essential things.

Underwear Similar to What You'll Wear on the Day

Undergarments make a massive difference to how a wedding dress fits and feels.⁣ Not only that, but plenty of gowns actually can't be worn with certain types of underwear due to their cut, style, or fabric.

Seamless, nude-coloured undergarments are ideal for wedding dress appointments as they don’t show through lighter fabrics.⁣ You should also bring a strapless bra or adhesive cups to accommodate different necklines.⁣

If you intend to wear shapewear on your wedding day, be sure to bring it to your appointment. This type of underwear looks especially good with fitted dresses, particularly crêpe fabric styles, as the combination helps to create a wonderfully smooth silhouette.

Shoes with a Similar Heel Height

The height of your bridal shoes will dramatically impact how your wedding dress falls and fits, especially the length and hemline.

Be sure to wear your planned wedding-day height to your dress appointments, as that will help you and us visualize the overall look. While also ensuring accuracy for future alterations.

If you haven't purchased your bridal shoes yet, that's totally understandable, but be sure to decide on the height you'd like to wear on the big day.

Bridal Inspiration

Having an idea of what you’re looking for in terms of style, fabric, or silhouette will help guide your stylist when selecting wedding dresses for you. Brides often end up selecting something entirely different than they expected initially. But it's still useful to begin the process with a few inspiration pictures.

We ask our brides to make a wishlist of gowns they'd like to try on before visiting us. And we'll give you instructions on how best to do this when booking an appointment. Alongside these styles, you're more than welcome to share pictures from Instagram or Pinterest of specific features you like - such as lace details, long sleeves, or a particular silhouette.

A Supportive Wedding Dress Shopping Crew

Choosing the right group to take wedding dress shopping with you is crucial, as negative or disruptive guests can really hamper your experience. And make it harder to find the perfect gown.

Bring people with you that know your style, respect your preferences, and can offer constructive feedback, without taking over your experience.

Keep your group small as well, as too many voices can lead to confusion. 2 to 3 people is how many we'd recommend.
